Answers to the questions people ask most

Which iPhones does SpinRecipe work on?

SpinRecipe works on any iPhone that runs iOS 26 or later.

Naming dishes, choosing tags and reading ingredients use Apple Intelligence, which needs one of these iPhones:

  • iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max
  • iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, 16 Pro Max and 16e
  • iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, iPhone Air and 17e
  • Any newer iPhone

Apple Intelligence also has to be turned on, in Settings under Apple Intelligence & Siri. SpinRecipe's own Settings shows whether it's ready.

On other iPhones, SpinRecipe still saves every recipe. The name comes from the caption, tags come from the ingredients it names, and recipe lists and web recipe pages are still read into the card. You can edit any of it afterwards.

Why don't some cards have an ingredients list?

SpinRecipe reads the recipe from what's written down: the post's caption, or the recipe on a web page. Many recipe videos only say the recipe out loud or show it on screen, so there's nothing written to read. Those cards still save with their name, photo and link.

To add the recipe yourself, open the card and tap Write the recipe. Type it, or paste it if the creator put it in a comment or on their website. Tap Edit above the ingredients to change it later.

Without Apple Intelligence, SpinRecipe can only read captions that list ingredients line by line with amounts, like "200g noodles".

SpinRecipe isn't in my share sheet
  1. Tap Share on a post or page.
  2. Scroll the row of app icons to the end and tap More.
  3. Tap Edit, then add SpinRecipe to Favorites so it stays near the front.

If SpinRecipe isn't listed under More either, restart your iPhone and try again.

How do I add the widget?
  1. Touch and hold an empty part of your Home Screen until the apps jiggle.
  2. Tap Edit, then Add Widget.
  3. Find SpinRecipe, choose the small, medium or large size, and tap Add Widget.

Tap Spin on the widget to change the recipe. Tap the card to open it in the app. To choose what it spins from, touch and hold the widget and tap Edit Widget.

How do I plan when to cook something?

Open the recipe and tap Plan, then pick a day and, if you like, the meal it's for. Or tap the calendar at the top of the Home screen, choose a day and tap Add a recipe.

A day with more than one dish fades between them in the calendar. To take a dish off a day, tap ••• beside it.

How do I add a recipe that isn't a post?

Copy the recipe from wherever it is, such as a message, a note or an email, then tap + at the top of the Home screen and paste it. You get the same card as a share, and can add your own photo from the camera button.

How do I get back recipes I deleted?

SpinRecipe backs up to your iCloud Drive once a week. In Settings, tap Restore from a backup, choose one and tap Restore. Recipes you no longer have come back; the ones you still have stay exactly as they are.

The dish name is just the first line of the caption

SpinRecipe names dishes with Apple Intelligence. Check that your iPhone supports it and that it's on in Settings, under Apple Intelligence & Siri. Right after you turn it on, the model can take a while to download; names improve once it's ready. SpinRecipe's own Settings shows whether Apple Intelligence is available.

You can rename any card by opening it and tapping its name.

Without Apple Intelligence, SpinRecipe still saves the recipe: it reads the ingredients and steps from the caption when they're written as a list, and you can edit the card afterwards.

Some cards have no picture

Pull down on the Home screen to refresh. SpinRecipe looks for the missing pictures again. If a post was deleted or made private, its picture can't be fetched.

My recipes aren't on my other iPhone or iPad

Both devices need to be signed in to the same Apple Account with iCloud turned on for SpinRecipe. New cards usually appear within a minute; opening the app on the other device brings them in, and its widget updates after that.

The widget shows an old recipe

Open SpinRecipe once. The widget refreshes from the app whenever it opens, and after every recipe you save.

Can I get titles in English?

Yes. In SpinRecipe's Settings, turn on Recipe titles in English. Recipes you share after that get their name, tags and recipe in English. Cards you already saved stay as they are.

Tips

Give a card a better photo

Some posts come with a blurry picture, or none at all. Open the card and tap the camera button on its photo:

  • Choose Photo picks one from your Photos.
  • Paste Photo appears when you've copied an image, from a website, a message or anywhere else.

A photo you choose is yours: sharing the post again or refreshing never replaces it.

Use a frame from the video as the photo
  1. Play the video and pause on the best shot of the finished dish.
  2. Take a screenshot: press the side button and volume up together.
  3. Tap the preview, crop to the dish, then tap Done and Copy and Delete, so it doesn't stay in Photos.
  4. In SpinRecipe, open the card, tap the camera button and choose Paste Photo.
Make a photo for a card that has none

For a recipe you pasted or typed in, you can make a picture of the dish. On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence, open Image Playground, describe the dish ("a bowl of gochujang butter noodles"), then copy the image. In SpinRecipe, open the card, tap the camera button and choose Paste Photo. Any image app works the same way: copy the image, then paste it.

More ways to use it
  • Want to cook on a card puts it in its own stack, and the widget can spin from just those.
  • Set the widget to Time of day and it spins breakfast in the morning, lunch at midday and dinner after three. Touch and hold it, then Edit Widget.
  • Tap the servings on a card to cook for more or fewer people. Every amount changes to match.
  • Tap + at the end of Stacks to make a stack from any tag, like chicken or air fryer.
  • Plan a recipe for a day from its Plan button, and choose whether it's lunch or dinner.
